At the foot of Ulriken
Central and convenient accommodations
If you're planning to visit Haukeland or Haraldsplass, you won't find a better location. It's also just a short distance from downtown, and the light rail will get you there in minutes.
If you have some free time to fill, the city is just waiting to be explored. From Haraldsplass, it’s also just a few minutes’ walk to the Ulriksbanen funicular and everything our city mountains have to offer. Here, you can go for an easy hike or really push yourself if you’re up for it!
Below are some suggestions for activities and attractions in the surrounding area.
Experience Bergen
Here are some of the things the local area has to offer

Ulriksbanen
The Ulriksbanen funicular starts just behind Haukeland Hospital, only a few minutes’ walk from the guesthouse. Here, you can take the gondola all the way to the top: 643 meters above sea level. Or, if you’re feeling energetic, walk up the beautiful stone steps from Montana. At the top, you’ll find both a fantastic view and the Ulriken 643 restaurant.

The Fløibanen
A trip up to Fløyen to enjoy the view is a must whenever the sun comes out in Bergen. Just behind the lower station of the Fløibanen funicular, you’ll find the start of the winding roads that eventually lead to Norway’s most famous mountain peak. From here, you can of course also take the funicular, which reaches the top in 5–6 minutes.

The Quay
Bergen’s first settlement was located at Bryggen, which is one of the city’s most popular attractions. Bryggen was established in 1070 and served as the hub of Hanseatic trade in Norway from 1360 to 1754. Bryggen is listed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.

The Aquarium
It sometimes rains in Bergen, and when it does, it’s the perfect opportunity to spend some time indoors at Norway’s largest aquarium. At the Aquarium, you’ll find everything from cod and saithe to sharks and crocodiles. The tropical section is home to reptiles, snakes, and insects of all sizes and colors. Plan your visit around the sea lion show for a unique experience!

The Fish Market
Ever since the 13th century, Bergen’s Fish Market has been a gathering place for both locals and tourists—you’ll hear people speaking Bergen dialect, Italian, Chinese, and German here. At the Fish Market, you’ll naturally find delicious fresh fish and seafood of all shapes and sizes, as well as fruits and vegetables.

Old Bergen Museum
Experience the dense wooden architecture, narrow alleys, and everyday life as it was in the 18th and 19th centuries at the Old Bergen Museum. Visit the clockmaker and take a look at some of Norway’s oldest clocks, or stop by the baker for fresh buns. Old Bergen has many exciting events and interactive exhibits in the summer—be sure to check the program!
